Beautiful Countryside Areas for a Peaceful UK Break

  1. Places to Visit in the UK

The UK has some amazing areas of natural beauty for anyone in need of a restful break. Book a few days away from the city and enjoy the local wildlife, spectacular views, and some much needed peace and quiet.

Not much beats a romantic weekend break in a luxurious country house hotel, but if you prefer to enjoy outdoor pursuits such as hill walking or mountain biking, or you have the kids in tow, consider booking a self-catering cottage or log cabin for a few days. So where are best places to visit if you want to escape from it all?

The Lake District

The Lake District in Cumbria is the nation’s favourite National Park. Its picture postcard peaks and scenic lakes have inspired numerous artists and poets over the centuries, and when you see the spectacular mountainous scenery for the first time, it isn’t hard to see why famous figures such as William Wordsworth were moved to creativity.

This part of the UK is great for outdoor pursuits. You can do a spot of hill walking and admire the views, or take your camera and go in search of the local wildlife. Other attractions include the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, the Honister Slate Mine, and for kids, the Beatrix Potter Museum.

Northumberland

Northumberland is the land of majestic castles and windswept coastline. The country is popular with wildlife enthusiasts, who come to visit the bird colonies on the Farne Islands, whale watch, and spot seals basking in the early morning tide. It is a wonderful place to come if you need to unwind and enjoy some rest and relaxation.

The castles are one of the main attractions in this part of the world. Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle are two of the most iconic, but there are others worthy of a visit, including Chillingham Castle, Lindisfarne Castle and Dunstanburgh Castle. The local beaches are also pretty amazing, with miles upon miles of sand to enjoy.

There are plenty of places to stay in Northumberland, but if you want to enjoy some peace and quiet all year round, it is a great idea to check out Northumberland holiday homes.

The Cotswolds

The Costwolds are designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. Picturesque villages full of thatched cottages and romantic stone churches and cream teas combined with attractive towns such as Cheltenham and Cirencester make this the perfect place to take a relaxing break at any time of the year.

If you are feeling energetic, take a trip along some or all of the Cotswold Way, a 102-mile network of linked tracks through the most beautiful parts of the Cotswolds. Kids will love the Cotswold Wildlife Park and the Cotswold Falconry Centre while parents will enjoy a wander around the fascinating Woodchester Mansion in Uley. Other places worth visiting include Snowshill Manor in Broadway and Court Barn Museum in Chipping Camden.

If stress has taken its toll and you need a break, book a few days away in one of these places and you will soon feel refreshed and ready to face the world again.
